About El Batidor
In 1919, the editors of the school yearbook decided to publish an occasional magazine in order to better communicate with families and recent graduates. In the words of Headmaster Curtis Cate, the paper was designed “to bring the school as a whole nearer to its friends.” The paper was named “El Batidor” – The Outrider – to reflect its purpose as bearer of news from the school to its alumni. In 1952, El Batidor shed its magazine format and became a separate school publication, serving primarily as a report of all school activities. In addition to serving as a forum of student opinion, El Bat has continued to serve as the public record for the past half century.
